Meet Tristaca Curley: Kelowna Dietitian and Founder of Fueling With Food Inc
Fueling With Food Inc. was founded in 2007 by Registered Kelowna Dietitian Tristaca Curley. The company’s mission is to bring evidence-based, personalized nutrition care to the Okanagan and beyond.
Tristaca’s deep commitment to the field of nutrition is reflected in her extensive academic background. For instance, she served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia (Okanagan), Okanagan College, and Thompson Rivers University. Additionally, she teaches five specialized nutrition courses through Acadia University’s distance education department.
Her academic journey began at the University of Victoria, where she earned a unique dual undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and Psychology. She merged her passion for human movement, behavioral psychology, and nutrition. Therefore, she pursued graduate studies at McGill University, earning a Master of Science degree. It was at McGill that she consequently developed a specialized clinical tool designed to screen for disordered eating in competitive athletes.
Because of her clinical expertise, national coordinators selected Tristaca as one of only a handful of elite dietitians to help develop the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination—the rigorous national board exam that all dietitians must pass to practice in Canada.
From Professional Athletes to Family Nutrition
Throughout her career, Tristaca has worked with an incredibly diverse clientele. Her clients range from everyday individuals looking to heal their relationship with food to elite NHL players optimizing their nutrition for peak performance. Furthermore, she has served as the lead Sports Dietitian Nutritionist for:
- The Kelowna Rockets, Okanagan Hockey Academy, and Rink Hockey Academy
- Dalhousie University and Acadia University Athletics
- The Canada Winter Games and the National Coaching Institute
While she works with all areas of wellness, she dedicates a significant portion of her clinical research and practice to sports performance and disordered eating recovery. Additionally, she is an active member of the Sport Nutrition Advisory Council of Canada and the International Federation of Eating Disorder Dietitians. Moreover, she is fully regulated by the British Columbia College of Health and Care Professionals.
A Trusted Dietitian Media Expert & Mom
Tristaca is consistently sought out by national media outlets to translate complex nutrition science into practical advice. Particularly, she has been a featured dietitian nutritionist expert across television, radio, and print, including:
- Television & Radio: CTV’s Live at 5, Breakfast Television, and CBC’s Mainstreet and Information Morning.
- National Magazines: Chatelaine, Today’s Parent, Canadian Living, Elle, Flare, Canadian Running, Glow, Best Health, and Inside Fitness.
Passionate about getting kids into the kitchen early, Tristaca recently launched a fun YouTube miniseries alongside her own children. Geared toward young chefs, the episodes feature her kids preparing simple, dietitian-approved recipes. These are designed for families to cook along with at home. In fact, many more videos are on the way!
As a busy mom of two active boys, Tristaca truly understands how difficult it can be to feed a family well when life gets chaotic. As a result, she is eager to share her passion for sustainable, healthy living with clients across the Okanagan and nationwide.
